This is the 4-1-1 for the show. When in doubt come here and get answers to questions like, “Can I bring my throwing stars?” That would be a “no.”

The focus of the volunteer program is patron services. Upon their arrival, volunteers help guests acclimate to the grounds and get their bearings, they ensure that kids are protected and having a good time, they help guests with physical limitations enjoy the show, and they help keep the park presentable by encouraging guests to recycle.

Please take a look at the following information to learn what to expect from the volunteer experience. If you are interested in being a volunteer for Big State, access the link at the bottom of the page to fill out an application. We look forward to hearing from you!

Volunteer FAQ's

What are the requirements for volunteering?
The minimum age to volunteer for this event is 18. Volunteers must live in the surrounding community.

How long are the shifts?
A typical shift is around 4 hours. However, shift times will vary depending on level of difficulty (constant standing vs. sitting), location of activity (outside of festival grounds & away from music vs. within hearing distance/view of stage) and type of activity (recycling vs. box office).

What are the rewards for volunteering?
Beyond the satisfaction of being part of this amazing community event, receiving the sincere gratitude of the festival organizers, spending time with a bunch of fun people, and making new friends, volunteering gets you in to the festival on the day that you work…plus a limited edition Big State volunteer t-shirt!

What happens after I register to volunteer?
Your information will be added to the volunteer database. Someone in the volunteer program will call qualified candidates in order to discuss opportunities. Volunteers will subsequently receive email reminders regarding assignments including logistical details, roles, responsibilities and any other pertinent information. For this reason, it is imperative that you have a valid email address that you check often.

Please note that by filling out an application, you are not assured a role in the festival. If you have not been contacted by October 1st, it is unlikely you will be placed.

Will I be trained to perform my job?
Absolutely! All volunteers will be sent information about their assigned role, as well as a volunteer overview "handbook", via email. At the festival, there will be leaders assigned to each team who will be able to provide direction and answer your questions.

Are you ready to sign up?
Please check back for information on volunteering for the 2008 Festival.
